Just two weeks before The King’s untimely death, the book Elvis: What Happened was released on August 1, 1977. The book was penned by three of his former bodyguards and included lurid secrets and details about his personal life. Presley tried to pay the publishers to stop the book from coming out, but he was unable to delay publication. On August 16th, The King succumbed to his many physical ailments and was gone forever.
