3 Natural Health Mistakes To Avoid

Natural health is a great way to live more holistically and organically, while reducing how many toxins and chemicals go into your body.

However, there are some common mistakes people tend to make that might create more harm than good.

Mistake #1. Using DIY Sunscreen

Using sunscreen is a great way to prevent your skin from aging and also for reducing your risk for skin cancer.

There are many different brands, types, and strengths of sunscreen available on the market. But beware of DIY sunscreen!

There is a big difference between natural sunscreen and DIY sunscreen.

Unless you really know what you are doing, it is best not to use completely DIY sunscreen, since it puts your skin at risk for damage from the sun’s UV rays.

However, if you want to go more natural, there are quite a few natural alternatives to traditional sunscreen that use fewer chemicals.

Mistake #2. Not Practicing Essential Oil Safety

If you are going to be using essential oils, make sure you understand the basics of using them, otherwise you will be doing more harm than good to yourself and those around you.

Safety tips to keep in mind:

  • Read the product labels and instructions.
  • Dilute them properly before applying to your skin, because many essential oils are too strong at high concentrations and can hurt you.
  • Store them in a place that is safe, and away from children and pets.
  • Avoid applying them to your eyes, inside your nose and ears, and open wounds.
  • Always test them before using them on large areas of your body.
  • Some essential oils contain ingredients (e.g. citrus products) that increase sun sensitivity; therefore you should avoid applying these types of oils if you will be out in the sun.

Mistake #3. Failing to Test New Products Beforehand

Speaking of testing products, this is a good rule of thumb for all natural and DIY products you use.

You never know how your skin or body will react to something, so be careful when trying a new ingredient.

Always test it on a small patch of skin before using it.

By avoiding these simple mistakes, you can prevent a lot of negative side effects of going natural.
